Contact
When I was at work the other day, I overheard some coworkers talking about their love life. Normally I would have just tuned it out but their conversation was actually quite interesting.
The more attractive of the 2 girls was telling the other about her last “outing” with this guy. She indicated that he spent the night, and at this point I was going to tell her to stfu and chat with her friend somewhere else however, she then said that he still hadn’t kissed her yet.
That had me quite confused as one would assume spending the night meant that they both knew they were in a relationship and one would assume that that implies some amount of kissing. She went on to say that he did hold her hand and she thought that was so sweet. This got me thinking that maybe they were just in that first uncomfortable part of a relation ship where no one is sure what is going on and they are both trying not to ruin what they have going for them.
After that I was thinking how much physical contact people normally have with others. Now most people who are in a relationship clearly have some when they are with their partner but single people generally don’t have much at all do they? I thought about myself and aside from the occasional hand shake when I am introduced to someone new, I can’t really think of any other contact with anyone else.
My thoughts on this subject were interrupted by someone at work sneaking up on my and giving me a back massage for a few seconds while they asked me for some help. It was a very confusing experience because I was surprised by someone sneaking up on me but also comforted by the massage. All in all, it was a really a weird experience and also rather ironic considering my thoughts at the time.
